OJ Simpson The Robber

Thirteen years after his headline grabbing arrest following the murders of his wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman, OJ Simpson is in serious trouble with the law again, this time in connection with an armed robbery.

Police today arrested Simpson, saying he was part of an armed group who burst into a Las Vegas hotel room and snatched memorabilia that documented his own sports career.

The former US football star was taken away from the Palms Casino Hotel by plainclothes officers a day after the arrest of a friend who police say accompanied him with a gun in the hold-up on Thursday night.

Handcuffed and wearing a golf shirt and jeans, Simpson was put in a police vehicle.

Las Vegas police gave further details of the arrest at a press conference this afternoon.

Simpson is charged with two counts of robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, and four other charges

A judge ordered Simpson held without bail.

If convicted of the charges, Simpson could face up to 30 years in prison on each robbery count alone.

60-year-old Simpson has said he and other people were retrieving items that belonged to him.

Collingwood Beats West Coast in Thriller

COLLINGWOOD last night (Friday 14th) staged an amazing comeback to beat West Coast by 19 points in extra time in a pulsating AFL semi-final at Subiaco.

The Magpies kicked 3.3 to two behinds in the two five-minute periods after full-time to win the sudden-death game 13.15 (93) to 10.14 (74).

It was the first drawn final since the Kangaroos eventually beat Hawthorn by 23 in their 1994 qualifying final.

Collingwood will now play Geelong next Friday night in their preliminary final.

Alan Didak was best for Collingwood and Anthony Rocca kicked three goals, while Dean Dox and Matt Priddis were best for the Eagles.

Leaving aside Adelaide in 1999, who failed to make the top eight, West Coast last night became the first defending premier to not win a final the following year since Carlton in 1996.

Collingwood beat the Eagles in Perth for the first time since 1992.

Conclusion :

A lot will be said about the Eagles missing key players such as Cousins, Kerr and Judd and not a lot of mention of Collingwoods missing key players such as Fraser and the now fading Licuria, Holland, Rhyce Shaw and Prestigiacomo, Fraser was obviously the biggest player absent for Collingwood as West Coast's Cox and Embley are the big duo ruckman in the AFL.

West Coast's players standouts Matt Priddis is also gatherring a lot of media attention for his brilliant game, but what about Dane Swan and the return of form of Didak ? Dane Swan finished with 38 possessions and was the highest possession getter on the field (compared to Priddis' 37 possessions) and Alan Didak who collected 20 disposals in the last half of the game.

This game was the best game I have seen and I just hope it wont be swept aside because of the injuries to the key players before the game.

Beating West Coast at the WACA is an achievement in itself.

After Collingwood has knocked out the previous two Grand finalists in Sydney and West Coast - the focus is now on Geelong, Geelong's focus is now on Collingwood, Geelong will enter as strong favorites and Collingwood as rank outsiders and returning from a draining game against West Coast and Geelong with a Weeks break should be stronger for it .... lets see what shapes up towards the biggest Final in Melbourne in years and with just one non Victorian team remaining in the race for the flag.

Geelong Cats Let one Slip - AFL 2006 -

Geelong (Cats) seemed un-stoppable and back in form poised for the upset of the season in the first two quarters against a highly fancied West Coast Eagles, But the game game turned and West coast dominated the last quarter and a half to turn a 54 point defecit into a 3 point victory, one of the greatest comebacks in recent history.

The Coaches Said :

Thompson Said :
"That's as about as bad as it gets. To play so well for a period of the game and lose it, not showing fight, missed tackles, opened up the ground to them. It was pretty tragic," Thompson said."We've got a game in seven days against Essendon. It's a pretty defining game. They just ran and work harder than us. I thought we had some good players out there today but just in the end the Eagles just overran us."

Worsfold Said :
"At three-quarter-time I was hoping we would carry on and continue (the way we had played late in the third quarter) and maybe win the last quarter," Worsfold said."But after we kicked the first goal of the last quarter (in the first minute through Adam Hunter) I thought we were an outside chance if we could keep the pressure on them.""We were still five goals down but the breeze was worth three so we thought we might have a chance."

Geelong FC less than impressive Round 5...AFL Blog 2006

Geelong battled hard but was unable to improve its recent indifferent record on the road in going down to the Sydney Swans by 22 points at Telstra Stadium on Saturday night - 15.17 (107) to 13.7 (85).

Cameron Mooney and the hard-working James Bartel were the Cats' best, although it was a frustrating night for the team that earlier this month was riding high and premiership favourite.

Brent Prismall had a debut for the Cats he will never forget - but not for all the right reasons - the young midfielder breaking his arm early in the match.

Jude Bolton got his side's first eight minutes in after a 50m penalty while a strong mark to Mooney allowed Charlie Gardiner to put the Cats back in front a minute later.

But Geelong, with Gary Ablett and Paul Chapman looking creative, led by a goal at the first break.

A costly turnover from Scarlett - who was moved off Hall mid-way through the quarter - gave Goodes his first goal, and when Schneider and Craig Bolton booted late goals the Swans led by 20 points at half-time, 7.11 to 5.3.

Hall, who had three goals, and O'Loughlin could have put Geelong away before the last change but missed relatively easy chances, although the home side still led by 24 points at three-quarter time.

The Cats booted two early goals in the last term through Mooney, the Cats' only real tall-marking threat, and Chapman to cut the deficit to just two goals. But Hall booted his fourth to spell the end for Geelong, and two more goals to Schneider and another to Goodes ensured the Sydney siders celebrated their first win on home soil for the year.

SYDNEY: 3.3, 7.11, 11.16, 15.17 (107)
GEELONG: 4.3, 5.3, 9.4, 13.7 (85)

GOALS – Geelong: Mooney 3, Chapman 3, Gardiner 2, Ablett 2, Ling, Rooke, Milburn
BEST – Geelong: Mooney, Bartel, Chapman, Enright

The Geelong Football Club are looking good for 2006 and should do well, with 2 wins up and playing the Doggies today, should notch up another win against the un-beaten doggies, but the Doggies are playing well so the cats will need to play hard to get them over the Top.

The Cats should have a good year and up in the Top half of the eight, with young players like Ablett firing, it is also worth noting that the fans this year have broken the membership record with over 30 000 members signing up.

Go Cats.
